History Lesson: Welcome to the 20’s!

Welcome to the roaring 20’s class! Restrictions during the 1920’s incited a time of excess, placing a greater value on living life and doing so extravagantly. We saw this reflected in clothing choices as people adorned themselves with headpieces, glitzy jewelry, and glamorous dresses with movement. When it came to both fashion and life there was no holding back. A century later in the 2020’s we are seeing the same scenario repeated. Restrictions in the 2020’s provokes a similar movement, placing a greater value on social interaction and entertainment. These past two years may not have been what you wanted them to be, but slowly but surely the world is healing. The events of the Covid 19 pandemic have everyone feeling restless. As more and more continues to open up safely, it is finally time to show off your extravagant, yet still elegant outfits on the street. A modern twist on classic styles is what the 2020’s is all about. Adding rich, yet fresh pops of color to gorgeous garments is just what the world needs as optimism is being expressed through clothing. Based on research from the S/S 2021 shows and the A/W 2022 shows we can see more of longer skirts and loose yet still flattering forms, reminiscent of a time where elegance and living life extravagantly prevailed. Extravagant accessories will be a major focus in the 2020’s. We can look forward to seeing the rise in glamorous headpieces, broaches, women’s ties, gloves, fur coats, vintage inspired shoes, and even shorter haircuts as a trending style for women. When it comes to the 2020’s the possibilities truly are endless.
